Modern
Modern dance is a style of dance that emerged in the early 20th century with the intention of exploring new ways to move and connect with music, space, and emotion. While there are many similarities with ballet, modern dance involves grounded movements, improvisation, and the use of the whole body in creative ways. It focuses on expressing emotions, ideas, and personal stories through natural and fluid movements. At the Lindsay Dance Studio we follow the International Society of Teachers of Dance (aka ISTD) syllabus, with the opportunity to take modern exams. Modern is a constantly evolving art form that encourages freedom, individuality, and experimentation. Modern dance complements both ballet and jazz, and the integration of these styles fosters the development of a versatile and well-rounded dancer.
