Stephanie Mackey

L.R.A.D, A.R.A.D, A.I.S.T.D, RAD RTS

Owner - Stephanie MackeyStephanie is a graduate of the College of the Royal Academy of Dance, London, England. She is among 20 students worldwide per year, who are accepted into this prestigious teacher training programme.

While attending, Stephanie studied RAD Ballet, ISTD Modern Theatre and National Dance, Character, Choreography, Pedagogy, Anatomy, Stage Production and History of Dance (Winner of the Ivor Guest History Prize 1985).

During her years at the RAD, Stephanie gained her Advanced Ballet (ARAD), Associateship in Modern Theatre (AISTD) and was awarded a Licentiate Diploma (LRAD) from the RAD College.

Upon graduation, Stephanie taught Ballet in Toronto for 2 years prior to coming to Lindsay. In 1990, she took over ownership of the Lindsay Dance Studio from Jean Muir (Founder of the LDS more than 50 years ago). Since then the Studio has flourished and grown from approximately 100 to 400 students.

During her time in Lindsay, Stephanie has watched her students grow from 4 years to adulthood. She cherishes these long-standing relationships, build on mutual respect and is extremely proud of their examination results.

Some of her former students have furthered their dance training at the National Ballet School of Canada, College of the Royal Academy of Dance London, England, York University and the Quinte Ballet School. 

In the summer of 2006, Stephanie spearheaded the formation of the Triple Threat Theatre Company, a youth theatre company focused on all aspects of performance: acting, singing, and dancing.

Stephanie looks forward to a promising future for the LDS. She currently resides in Lindsay with her husband, Linden Mackey, and their 4 young children.


Alana Imrie

Ballet/Modern/Jazz/Hip-Hop/Musical Theatre/National/Administration

Alana ImrieAlana has been a Student of the Lindsay Dance Studio since she was 3 years old and began assisting Mrs. Mackey when she was 12. Alana began teaching Jazz and Ballet when she was 15, until she graduated from High School. She is a graduate of York University (BFA – Dance) and the National Ballet School of Canada (Teacher Training Program). Alana was one of only 9 candidates from across the country to be accepted into this prestigious program.

Most recently Alana achieved her RAD Advanced I (Merit) in addition to her ISTD Advanced I (Merit). The Studio welcomes back Alana as a full-time teacher.

As well as her continuing work with the LDS, Alana is employed as the Dance Instructor for the Triple Threat Theatre Camps and is the Choreographer for the Triple Threat Theatre’s Young Company productions at the Academy Theatre in Lindsay. Alana has choreographed such shows as “Best of Broadway 1 & 2”, “A Chorus Line”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat”, “West Side Story”, “Les Miserables”, “Broadway Bound” and “Godspell”.


Heidi Vanderzwet

Ballet

Heidi VanderzwetHeidi has always aspired to be a dance teacher and has accumulated over ten years teaching experience. She began her dance training at the Lindsay Dance Studio at age 14, taking part in jazz, ballet and modern classes. She later assisted with teaching jazz and some modern classes.

After achieving her Intermediate (formerly elementary) ballet exam, Heidi pursued her teaching career in Windsor, Ontario. Initially teaching with Janice Brode (Janice Brode School of Dance), then Florence King-Proulx (Ballet Conservatory), she later began her own school in 2000 in order to complete the Royal Academy of Dance teaching diploma, while simultaneously working on a 3 year accounting diploma from St .Clair College.

In attaining her teaching diploma she studied skills and disciplines of the profession including Anatomy, Psychology, History, and Music Theory as well as the Royal Academy of Dance syllabi.

During this time (2002-04) Heidi traveled to London weekly to train with Dale Yoshida, former professional dancer with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company, in order to attain her Advanced I ballet exam, which she holds with merit.

Heidi is very much concerned with the correct and safe training of her students and regularly participates in RAD teaching seminars as well as seminars offered through the National Ballet School in Toronto. Aside from this, Heidi strives to develop self confidence, discipline and a sense of achievement in all her students, skills which they will undoubtedly use whatever their future goals may be.


Lindsay Storms

Modern/Jazz

Lindsay StormsLindsay began her dancing career at the age of 3 in Toronto, and moved to the Lindsay area at the age of 13, where she continued her studies in R.A.D. Ballet, I.S.T.D Modern, and Jazz with the Lindsay Dance Studio. After 3 years of study at Trent University, Lindsay returned to LDS, her home studio, to pursue her I.S.T.D Associates for Modern and Jazz. Lindsay has since also acquired her R.A.D. Intermediate ballet.

Over the years, Lindsay has had the wonderful opportunity to teach for several studios across Ontario, both competitive and non-competitive. Lindsay continues her passion for learning by taking courses with world renowned examiners and choreographers covering other various dance disciplines such as hip-hop, lyrical, and contemporary.

Wayne Henry

B.A., B.Ed., B.A., M.Ed

Tap

Wayne HenryWayne Henry received his formal dance training through the I.S.T.D. (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Modern Theatre, Tap and Jazz syllabi. He has also taken Master classes with such notables as: Mia Michaels (Internationally recognized choreographer – So You Think You Can Dance); Gus Giordano (‘Grandfather’ of American Jazz – choreographer for the White House shows, the Academy Awards and founder of the Chicago Jazz Congress); Charles Kelly (well known NYC choreographer, author of The American Tap Dictionary and Principal of the D.E.A. Teacher Training Program); A.J. Rousseau (Tap Dogs).

Wayne has been a dance instructor for over 20 years and during that time was the competition coach for The In-Ta Kids – an international dance competition troupe. As a Choreographer he has choreographed several community theatre musicals and along with his daughter, Alison, has been twice nominated for T.H.E.A. awards for best choreography for a musical. His performing experience includes parts in the Musicals: “The Boy Friend” and “Chess”; a small part in the movie “Hoover vs. The Kennedys”; He has worked as a fashion model and has performed at several trade shows. Wayne and his wife were recent winners of the freestyle jive competition in St. Georges, Bermuda.

Currently, Wayne is a Director and the Canadian Vice-President of Dance Educators of America – Canada – the prestigious dance teacher organization. He is also a co-owner of Traditions Academy of Dance – an R.A.D. and I.S.T.D. syllabus studio in Whitby, Ontario. He is thrilled to be a part of the L.D.S. ‘team’.


Malin Johnson

Jazz/Hip Hop

Malin JohnsonMalin's extensive training in dance and theatre includes the Centrala Dance School & Ballet Academy of Gothenburg / London Studio Centre.

She has studied Ballet, Jazz, Matt Mattox, Contempory, Tap, Spanish, Drama and Voice. 

Malin has danced in many shows across Europe, such as The Nutcracker, Cinderella, All That Jazz and West Side Story. Malin has also choreographed for theatre and live TV Shows.









Kate Imrie

Administration

Kate ImrieKate Imrie, a graduate of Queen’s University, (BA Politics/Psychology), has taken numerous Continuing Education courses through SSFC and Durham College. Kate handles the administrative aspects of the Studio, from Registration and Scheduling to the Programme for our annual Recital, “Showtime”, at the Academy Theatre in Lindsay.

Kate also serves as Producer for Triple Threat Theatre as well as their Administrative Director.

Kate and her husband, Ken are active Volunteers within the Lindsay Community, as the activities of their four children dictate!
